Edinburgh is a lucky to have so many pubs and clubs which continue to feature first-class live Scottish folk music. Here is our list of the top 5 places in Edinburgh to listen to folk music.

Sandy Bell’s – 25 Forrest Rd, Edinburgh

Sandy Bell’s is famous in Edinburgh, and has a long tradition of having some of the best folk music on offer in the capital.

Musicians play folk music at Sandy Bell’s every day of the week. In this small and friendly pub, people from all over the world enjoy the atmosphere (and perhaps a wee dram) together.

Every night is different and the sessions vary from Scottish folk music to bluegrass. This pub can get very busy when a band is playing, so if you want a seat get there early!

Royal Oak – 1 Infirmary St, Edinburgh

Together with Sandy Bell’s, the Royal Oak is probably Edinburgh’s liveliest folk music scene and music is offered here every night of the week.

The Royal Oak pub is home to the Wee Folk Club on Sundays at 8:30pm, with many of the capital’s best folk musicians playing here. Also a grand selection of whisky here!

Edinburgh Folk Club – 60 Pleasance, Edinburgh

The Edinburgh Folk Club has been proudly promoting folk music since 1973. Performances are held in the Pleasance Cabaret Bar, and unless otherwise stated, Edinburgh Folk Club gigs take place from 8.00pm (doors/bar 7:30pm) to 10.45pm on Wednesday evenings.

The Captain’s Bar is a traditional pub which has folk music sessions every night, and is located next to Edinburgh University’s Old College.
