Sandy Bell’s – 25 Forrest Rd, Edinburgh
Sandy Bell’s is famous in Edinburgh, and has a long tradition of having some of the best folk music on offer in the capital.
Musicians play folk music at Sandy Bell’s every day of the week. In this small and friendly pub, people from all over the world enjoy the atmosphere (and perhaps a wee dram) together.
Every night is different and the sessions vary from Scottish folk music to bluegrass. This pub can get very busy when a band is playing, so if you want a seat get there early!
Royal Oak – 1 Infirmary St, Edinburgh
Together with Sandy Bell’s, the Royal Oak is probably Edinburgh’s liveliest folk music scene and music is offered here every night of the week.
The Royal Oak pub is home to the Wee Folk Club on Sundays at 8:30pm, with many of the capital’s best folk musicians playing here. Also a grand selection of whisky here!
Edinburgh Folk Club – 60 Pleasance, Edinburgh
The Edinburgh Folk Club has been proudly promoting folk music since 1973. Performances are held in the Pleasance Cabaret Bar, and unless otherwise stated, Edinburgh Folk Club gigs take place from 8.00pm (doors/bar 7:30pm) to 10.45pm on Wednesday evenings.

The Whiski Bar & Restaurant – 119 High St, Edinburgh
Situated in the historic Old Town, Whiski has traditional Scottish folk music most nights. This pub has a really cool atmosphere with exposed stone walls, and you’ll be able to choose from over 300 different malt whiskies and enjoy their award-winning haggis.
The Captain’s Bar – 4 South College St, Edinburgh
The Captain’s Bar is a traditional pub which has folk music sessions every night, and is located next to Edinburgh University’s Old College.
This atmospheric little pub is a great place to come and enjoy a drink or two and listen to folk music in the heart of the city. Eddy Hanson, Sean Paul Newman and the Gallus Crows all play regularly and this incredibly well reviewed venue.
There are plenty of other pubs in the Royal Mile where you may chance upon some folk music. All in all, it’s worth exploring!
